Cabaret is a provocative musical set in 1930s Berlin as the Nazi Party begins its rise to power. The story follows American writer Cliff Bradshaw and his complicated romance with Sally Bowles, a spirited performer at the decadent Kit Kat Klub. Presiding over the club is the mysterious Emcee, whose increasingly unsettling performances mirror the political darkness growing outside.

With iconic songs including “Wilkommen,” “Maybe This Time,” “Mein Herr,” and “Cabaret,” the musical explores love, denial, prejudice, freedom, and the consequences of ignoring a changing and dangerous world.

The main roles in Cabaret are:

    •    Sally Bowles — Female lead. A charismatic, impulsive English nightclub singer at the Kit Kat Klub. Requires a strong actress with personality and emotional depth; the singing is character-driven rather than traditionally “pretty.”

    •    Cliff Bradshaw — Male lead. An American writer who comes to Berlin and becomes involved with Sally. More acting-focused than vocally demanding.

    •    The Emcee — The iconic master of ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub. A huge character role requiring charisma, physicality, strong stage presence, and musical ability.

    •    Fräulein Schneider — Older woman who runs the boarding house. A wonderful, layered acting role with several important songs.

    •    Herr Schultz — Older Jewish fruit-shop owner who falls in love with Schneider. Warm, charming, and ultimately heartbreaking.

    •    Ernst Ludwig — German businessman who befriends Cliff. A significant dramatic role tied to the rise of Nazism.

    •    Fräulein Kost — A bold, comic boarding-house resident who entertains sailors. Smaller but memorable featured role.

    •    Kit Kat Girls/Boys — The nightclub ensemble. Very important to the production and typically requires strong dancers/singer-actors with confidence and mature theatrical presence.
